Candle Care
Candle care is essential to ensure a safe and enjoyable experience while using candles. Here are some tips for proper candle care:
-
Trim the Wick:
- Before lighting a candle, trim the wick to about 1/4 inch (0.6 cm) to prevent excessive smoking and uneven burning.
- Trimming the wick also helps control the size of the flame and reduces the risk of soot buildup.
-
First Burn:
- Allow the candle to burn long enough during the first use so that the entire surface becomes liquid wax. This helps prevent tunnelling, where only the center of the candle melts.
-
Burn Time:
- Avoid burning candles for more than 4 hours at a time to prevent overheating.
- Allow the candle to cool completely before relighting.
-
Candle Holder:
- Place candles on heat-resistant surfaces and use appropriate candle holders.
- Keep candles away from drafts, as this can cause uneven burning and dripping.
-
Extinguishing:
- Use a proper candle snuffer or gently blow out the flame to extinguish the candle.
- Avoid using the candle lid or any object to smother the flame, as it can create smoke and disturb the wax pool.
-
Avoid Moving Candles:
- Do not move a burning candle; wait until the wax has solidified and the candle is cool.
- Moving a lit candle can cause wax to spill, and it may lead to accidents.
-
Keep the Wax Pool Clean:
- Remove any debris or matches from the wax pool to ensure a clean burn.
- A clean wax pool helps maintain an even and steady flame.
-
Storage:
- Store candles in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and heat to prevent warping and color changes.
-
Multiple Candles:
- If burning multiple candles, leave at least 3 inches (7.6 cm) between them to prevent uneven burning.
-
Safety Precautions:
- Never leave a burning candle unattended.
- Keep candles out of the reach of children and pets.
- Avoid placing candles near flammable materials.
